(Kuching, 20th) Jiang Fengnian, the special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, pointed out that the issue of abandoned houses in Sarawak continues to trouble ordinary Sarawakians.
He revealed that earlier, Chong Chieng Jen and Violet Yong assisted the buyers of Sentoria Borneo Samariang Garden, where many houses have yet to be completed, and buyers have to pay loans for houses they cannot occupy.
“Today, buyers of Ataria Resort Service Suites sought my help. This is yet another abandoned housing development project in Semariang town, with the developer being Sentoria Borneo Land Sdn Bhd.”
He stated that Ataria Resort Service Suites was launched in 2016, comprising a total of 428 service apartments.
“However, eight years have passed, and this development project was halted after 95% completion. Due to the delayed issuance of occupation permits, buyers are unable to move in. Meanwhile, those who purchased homes through loans are forced to pay interest for homes they cannot occupy. What is even more outrageous is the indifferent attitude of the Sarawak government.”
In today’s statement, Jiang Fengnian noted that the launched Semariang town was originally a vibrant, well-planned community, with many significant leaders attending and supporting its launch ceremony.
He stated that when these projects are delayed or even abandoned, the Sarawak coalition government and the Ministry of Public Health, Local Government, and Housing have not taken any effective measures to protect the affected Sarawakians.
He revealed that the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Local Government, and Housing did not hold developers accountable for the delays and completion of housing projects, resulting in many families facing economic and psychological stress. Buyers of Ataria Resort Service Suites and other unfinished housing projects in Semariang town must receive fair treatment and reasonable solutions.
Jiang Fengnian pointed out that the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Local Government, and Housing should intervene to take over these abandoned housing projects and ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
“At the very least, the state government must instruct its financial institutions, particularly Sarawak government-linked institutions like Affin Bank Berhad and Borneo Housing Mortgage Finance Berhad, to suspend charging interest to buyers until the developers hand over the houses.”
He stated that Sarawakians should not have to pay for the irresponsibility of housing developers. The Sarawak government must stop turning a blind eye to these issues and take swift action to protect the rights of Sarawakians immediately.
