Kuching, 10th -- Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari fully supports the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the construction sector.

He stated that Building Information Modeling is based on 3D technology, which can utilize very detailed data to simulate construction projects.

“It conducts a very thorough analysis of measurements, types of building materials, load coefficients, etc. All of this is stored on a data platform, making building structures more sustainable by using quality materials.”

Abang Johari said this while speaking at the Sarawak Public Works Department Gala Dinner 2024 last night.

Meanwhile, he also suggested using innovative materials in construction, including walls that act as solar panels.

“Last week, someone proposed the construction of a government building. I suggested they simulate the materials, including using walls that look like ordinary walls but are lightweight solar panels. This can save energy and generate its own power.”

The Sarawak Premier also emphasized the advantages of Building Information Modeling in house design, saving energy through the strategic arrangement of materials and design.

At the event, the Premier witnessed the exchange of a memorandum of understanding between the Sarawak Public Works Department and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), aimed at strengthening cooperation in Sarawak's digital development.
