(Reported on Miri on the 10th) Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin stated that Miri is an ideal place for cycling, not only because of its beautiful scenery but also due to its excellent geographical environment. The government hopes to transform Miri into a city capable of hosting various events.
He said that cycling is not only beneficial for health but also environmentally friendly. This sport not only helps in environmental protection but also makes Miri City cleaner, safer, and healthier. Therefore, he hopes that more events can be held in the future, with safety being the priority over winning or losing.
Lee Kim Shin made these remarks while speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the Miri 2024 Kuala Baram Road Race hosted by the Miri City Council.
He pointed out that organizing this event is also seen as an excellent platform for promoting Miri City's tourism industry, so plans are being made to make this an annual event to continuously attract more tourists to Miri.
He also urged the organizers to ensure proper arrangements are made when hosting competitions to avoid traffic congestion and minimize any inconvenience to the public.
It is reported that today's event was attended by 318 cyclists from both domestic and international origins.
