Taiwanese singer-songwriter Guo Jiawei came to Malaysia to promote his brand new EP "Missing Pieces," and after a year away, he returned noticeably slimmer. Smiling, he said, "I did lose a little weight." He mentioned that he feels a special connection with Malaysia—not only does he have many fans here, but he also has numerous friends who are Malaysian musicians. Every visit gives him the familiar sensation of "returning to a second home."
Guo Jiawei joked that in the past, every time he came to Malaysia, he would wonder where to go in the evenings and what souvenirs to buy, but now he feels much more relaxed. “I've eaten everything I wanted, and I know I'll be back again soon, so now I just feel relaxed when I come to Malaysia—it’s a very familiar place.”
At the press conference, fellow label artists Bii (毕书尽), Andrew Tan (陈势安), and Malaysian singer-friend Danny (大颖) sent their best wishes via VCR, wishing him great album sales. Local musicians and singers including Guan Qiyuan, Jiawang, Chezi Chezhi Li, and Junqian also attended to show their support, creating a lively scene. Guo Jiawei also performed one of his new songs, "Waiting for You Waiting for Me," adding a highlight to the event.
Since signing with Sony Music at the end of last year, Guo Jiawei has released works like "Who Do You Think You Are," "Me Too Me Too," and "That Beach," all performing impressively. His songwriting capabilities have increasingly been recognized, and he has received many collaboration requests. He frankly said that after joining the company and communicating with Andrew Tan and Bii, he received lots of encouragement: “They said if they write songs, they can send them to me, which made me more confident in my own songwriting.”
Talking about the EP "Missing Pieces," he described it as the most complete emotional expression he’s produced since he started writing and singing songs in college, accumulating over 6 to 7 years. He admitted that he experienced many different small stories during that time, which ultimately converged in this work—a process that wasn’t easy for him. “I waited six or seven years and finally released my first physical album.”
When asked whether he would collaborate with Danny again, he said that since their duet "A Few Days Later," many netizens have been asking for another collaboration, letting him feel how much people like their work. He also admitted that thanks to Danny, more Malaysian fans have come to know him, and he praised Danny's skill at writing emotion and stories into songs. As for the possibility of working together again, he said that if there is an opportunity, he hopes they can write a song together, putting what both want to say into one song. "Everyone can look forward to it."
At the end of last month, Guo Jiawei performed his first solo concert "Waiting for You Waiting for Me 2026 Cheers Concert" at Taipei Legacy, with tickets selling out in less than a day—a very enthusiastic response. Regarding plans to perform in Malaysia, he said that he always keeps Malaysia in mind and hopes to do a solo show here as soon as possible. He joked, “If there are any companies willing to sponsor a Malaysia concert, I’ll leave my WhatsApp here for you to contact me...” He then added seriously that he truly does want to perform in Malaysia, “Although there is pressure about ticket sales, I really want to do a show especially for Malaysia.”
