Having won the Premier League title, Liverpool held a victory parade on the 26th when a white driver drove his car into the crowd, causing chaos at the scene.
Witnesses pointed out that as the car accelerated into the narrow street filled with people, the terrifying screams of the victims filled the air, accompanied by the “bang, bang, bang” sound of citizens being hit and thrown onto the hood.
Witnesses recalled that the involved car first accelerated to turn right, then left, crossing the street and onto the sidewalk, knocking down the gathered crowd. When the car finally stopped, the furious crowd swarmed it, hitting the car, throwing bottles, and shouting “kill him (the driver)”, while others tried to lift the car to rescue those trapped underneath. Within seconds, the driver was dragged out of the car, after which the police intervened.
Witnesses pointed out that the driver seemed to be following closely behind an ambulance, and the street was already closed. When he realized he was in the crowd and people were starting to bang on his car, he appeared to panic.
Another person present said they would never forget the sound of people being hit, the expressions on the officers' faces, and their blood-stained uniforms.
Another eyewitness stated that it was horrifying; the car knocked down dozens of people, and fortunately, they survived by turning into a small street.
Some witnesses said they saw the driver leave a nearby pub, suggesting he might have been drunk.
