After Italian Prime Minister Meloni had her doctored private photos posted on a pornographic website, on the 29th she called on women to immediately report to the police if they find their private photos circulating online without their consent.
According to AFP, after Meloni and numerous other prominent women such as left-wing opposition Democratic Party leader Schlein had their fake photos found on pornographic websites, Meloni told Corriere della Sera: "I feel disgusted by these things."
These images were manipulated through editing to highlight or make certain body parts look sexier, with their sources being photos taken at political rallies and holiday snapshots stolen from personal social network accounts.
This platform, called Phica, had more than 700,000 users before shutting down on the 28th, and blamed the closure on users' violations.
Phica is Italian slang for female genitalia.
Meloni said: "I want to express solidarity and support to all women who have been offended, humiliated, and violated."
Italian police told AFP they have received "many" reports about such websites and social platforms publishing private or fake images without the consent of the people involved.
