The FIFA Foundation announced on the 10th that it will allocate $1 million from its humanitarian aid fund to support emergency relief and post-disaster recovery work in the earthquake-affected areas of Venezuela.
On June 24, Venezuela was struck by a series of powerful earthquakes. According to the latest figures released by Venezuelan authorities on the 9th of this month, the earthquakes have caused 3,889 deaths, 16,740 injuries, and 17,907 people to lose their homes.
The FIFA Foundation stated that the funds will be used to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to people affected by the disaster, support local and international partners in carrying out rescue operations, and help the affected communities gradually return to normal life.
At several recent 2026 World Cup matches in the US, Canada, and Mexico, players and spectators held moments of silence before kickoff to mourn the victims of the Venezuelan earthquake and to express the football community’s condolences and support for those in the disaster areas.
