(Kuala Lumpur, 5th) Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching, reminded the public on Monday (May 5) not to trust any link claiming to be from the government website unless the URL ends with “.gov.my”.
She posted on Facebook saying, “Scammers are spreading suspicious website links via WhatsApp and other social media platforms, claiming to allow you to check your Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) status. This is a scam!”
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi also reminded the public on April 19 to remain vigilant and not to easily trust the false messages about STR assistance funds forwarded through WhatsApp.
He stated that these messages containing suspicious links might be used for fraudulent online investment schemes or to steal user access to the WhatsApp application.
