After launching an investigation into imported corrosion-resistant steel products, the United States has made affirmative countervailing and anti-dumping duty determinations against ten countries/regions.
The U.S. Department of Commerce issued a statement on the 26th saying that the ruling covers products from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam, with a total value of $2.9 billion (approximately RM12.263 billion).
The Department of Commerce pointed out that the corrosion-resistant steel products exported from these ten countries/regions to the U.S. were dumped and/or subsidized.
The Department of Commerce stated that corrosion-resistant steel is used in the manufacture of automobiles, home appliances, and buildings. The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) will independently assess the harm caused to the domestic steel industry by the imports of such steel products.
The Department of Commerce said: "If the ITC makes an affirmative injury determination against specific trade partners, the Department of Commerce will issue anti-dumping and countervailing orders."
