(Kuching, 23rd) Last Saturday, the Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) issued four prohibition notices (NOP) to an employer after a fatal industrial accident occurred at a construction site located on Jalan Stutong.
The department stated in a press release yesterday that the case is being investigated under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514).
“If the Act is violated, legal action will be taken against those responsible. Employers violating the Act may be fined up to RM500,000.”
On Saturday morning, a 33-year-old local construction worker was killed after being struck by a falling concrete lintel at a construction site near a private hospital on Jalan Stutong.
According to the Sarawak Department of Occupational Safety and Health, the deceased was working as a scaffolder and was dismantling wire ties from scaffoldings on the ground level, while a crane operator was hoisting bricks and lintels to the seventh floor.
“During the lifting process, the lintel fell and struck the worker’s head, causing severe injuries. Medical staff pronounced him dead at the scene, and his body was removed from the site around 1pm.”
