U.S. President Trump stated at a press conference held at the White House on the 6th that the U.S., not Iran, should collect transit fees for the Strait of Hormuz.
He said that reopening the Strait of Hormuz must be part of any plan to end the conflict.
He stated: "An agreement must be reached that I can accept, and one of the terms of this agreement must ensure the free passage of oil and all types of goods."
Trump reiterated that the United States has already defeated Iran militarily, and therefore the "victor should take the spoils."
He pointed out that the U.S., not Iran, should levy transit fees on ships passing through the strait. "Why aren’t we charging? We are the winners."
