Abang Johari Attends Asia World Hydrogen Energy Conference

(Tokyo, 10th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg arrived in Tokyo, Japan yesterday to attend the 2025 Asia World Hydrogen Energy Conference, highlighting Sarawak's key role in leading Asia's clean energy future.
Abang Johari and the Sarawak government delegation arrived at Tokyo Narita International Airport at 5:25 pm local time.
The entourage included Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Hazland Abang Hipni, and Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning & Development) Datuk Seri Mohamad Abdullah Zaidel.
Upon arrival at their hotel, the delegation was welcomed by Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghani, Deputy Minister for Sarawak Utilities (in charge of Sarawak Energy and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, as well as senior Sarawak government officials.

Today, Abang Johari will deliver a keynote speech on the international stage, titled "Sarawak’s Hydrogen Energy Vision: Leading ASEAN’s Green Growth."
The speech will focus on Sarawak’s latest hydrogen economy blueprint, integrated renewable energy development strategy, public-private partnerships, as well as investments in hydrogen technology, encompassing topics such as hydrogen transport solutions and future export potential.
After that, he will participate in a panel forum to discuss coordination of hydrogen policy support in the Asia-Pacific region.
Panel members also include Director-General for International Policy on Carbon Neutrality, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, Shinichi Kihara; Advisor to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy, Osama Melebari; and Dr. Tsai Ying-Ju, Research Fellow at Taiwan’s Institute for Democratic, Social and Emerging Technology Studies.

In the afternoon, Abang Johari will meet with representatives from the Sumitomo Group and is expected to return to Sarawak tomorrow.
Currently, Sarawak has become the pioneer of hydrogen energy development in ASEAN, leveraging hydropower resources, forward-looking policies, and strategic international cooperation, steadily progressing towards becoming a leading hydrogen exporter.
According to information, the 2025 Asia World Hydrogen Energy Conference gathers global leaders in the hydrogen field to jointly promote Asia’s transition to a clean hydrogen energy economy.
