Malaysia appreciates and welcomes the recent resumption of peace talks between the Southern Thailand Peace Dialogue Panel (PEDP) and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), which had been suspended since August 2024, as well as the strong commitment shown during the dialogue to strengthen the existing peace framework.

The Malaysian Government Coordination Office and the National Security Council stated in a release on Monday (8th) that the PEDP is led by the new Chairman of the Peace Dialogue Committee, General Somsak Rungsita, while the BRN delegation is headed by religious leader Annas Abd Rahman.

They stated that the eighth official meeting of the peace dialogue was held in Kuala Lumpur that day, and the meeting was chaired by Malaysia’s coordinator, Datuk Mohamad Rabin, with the participation of an international expert.

"The meeting was conducted in a harmonious atmosphere with both sides demonstrating a strong commitment to strengthening the existing peace framework. PEDP and BRN agreed to reinforce the current framework, with an emphasis on achieving the 'final state' based on three core pillars: cessation of violence, public consultation, and a political solution."

"The meeting also proposed the establishment of relevant technical working groups to further discuss related issues."

They stated that Malaysia is committed to advancing peace progress through inclusivity and further discussions, which will be detailed in technical-level meetings.

"Malaysia will continue to provide full assistance in an appropriate manner to ensure progress in peace, while maintaining its coordinating role in the peace dialogue."
