US President Trump stated on the 15th that the US and Iran are close to reaching a nuclear agreement, and Iran broadly agrees to the terms of the agreement.
During his visit to Qatar, he told AFP that the US and Iran are engaged in very serious negotiations concerning long-term peace issues.
He stated, “I think we may be able to reach an agreement soon.”
Negotiators from the US and Iran held a new round of talks on the Iranian nuclear program on the 11th in Oman, and both sides plan to continue negotiations.
Additionally, Ali Shamkhani, senior political, military, and nuclear advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, told NBC News on the 14th that if the US immediately lifts all sanctions on Iran, Iran might commit to never manufacturing nuclear weapons, destroy its stockpile of highly enriched uranium used for weapon manufacture, agree to enrich uranium only to low levels required for civilian purposes, and allow international monitors to oversee the entire process.
He said that if these conditions are met, Iran is willing to sign a nuclear agreement with the US.
