(Miri, 19th) The Deputy Minister for Women, Children, and Community Well-being of Sarawak, Dato' Rosey Yunus, today listened to the report on various projects in Bekenu at the Public Works Department in Miri.
Rosey Yunus, who is also the state assembly member for the Bekenu constituency, stated at a press conference that the region has received approval from the Sarawak Premier for four projects with a total investment of over RM 200 million.
She mentioned that the projects include upgrading the Miri Coastal Highway, constructing inland bridges, and developing waterfront parks to enhance local transportation and tourism landscapes.
“The Miri Coastal Highway Upgrade Project involves upgrading the existing coastal highway, spanning from the Niah Sepupok junction to Kampung Bakam, with a project cost exceeding RM 1.58 billion, and scheduled to last three years (from January 2, 2025, to January 1, 2028).”
She said the second project is the road upgrade from Kampung Lambir to Kampung Bulau to improve connectivity among several villages in the Bekenu region, with the project already commenced on February 27, 2025, and expected to be completed by February 26, 2028, costing RM 57 million, including road widening and partial bridge construction to entirely improve local transportation conditions.
She also stated that the third project is the construction of the Kampung Bulau Bridge. This RM 6 million project, once completed, will allow vehicular passage and significantly reduce travel time to inland areas.
“The fourth project is the first phase of the Kampung Rambai Riverside Park, valued at RM 4.13 million, expected to commence on April 4 this year and last for a year, with the project involving the construction of a glass walkway and viewing platform, while the second phase is being planned.”
She revealed that the government has also announced that two projects will be initiated at Tusan Beach, including a viewing platform and exhibition hall costing RM 6.6 million and a coastal erosion restoration project costing RM 4.9 million. Both projects have obtained approval from the relevant departments and are currently in the technical assessment stage.
