Talks Are Better Than Fighting: Wang Yi Speaks with Iranian Foreign Minister

Published at Mar 25, 2026 03:50 pm
On the 24th, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi at the latter's request, expressing the hope that all parties will seize every opportunity and window for peace and initiate the negotiation process as soon as possible.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Araghchi briefed Wang on the latest developments in the regional situation and thanked China for providing emergency humanitarian assistance. He stated that the Iranian people are more united than ever in resisting foreign aggression and safeguarding national sovereignty and independence.

Araghchi said that Iran is committed to achieving a comprehensive ceasefire, not just a temporary truce. The Strait of Hormuz remains open to all, and ships can pass safely, but warring countries are not included in this arrangement. He hoped that measures taken by all parties would help de-escalate the situation rather than escalate the conflict. He looks forward to China continuing to play an active role in promoting peace and stopping the fighting.

Wang Yi reiterated China’s principled position, emphasizing that all hotspot issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation rather than by force. Talks are always better than fighting. This serves the interests of Iran and its people, and also reflects the general desire of the international community. He urged all parties to seize every opportunity and window for peace and promptly start the negotiation process. China will continue to uphold an objective and fair position, oppose infringement on other countries' sovereignty, actively mediate to promote peace and end hostilities, and remain committed to regional peace and stability.
