On March 30, in Qujing, Yunnan, China, a parent, after learning their child had been bullied at school, died suddenly after an emotional outburst while at the school to understand the situation.
On April 13, Ms. Li from Qujing, Yunnan, told reporters that her son is 15 years old this year and is in the third year of middle school at Tongquan Middle School in Malong District, Qujing City.
On the afternoon of March 30, around 3 p.m., her husband received a call from the son's homeroom teacher saying that their child had been beaten by other students at school and the parents needed to come to the school to mediate the matter.
Around 5 p.m., she and her husband entered Tongquan Middle School. "After entering the school, we learned that our son had been extorted for snacks by other students since the beginning of the semester, and later for money. On the afternoon of March 30, he was beaten by classmates. After the father found out about the bullying, he became very emotional. He walked from the school's playground into the mediation room, and only a few minutes into the mediation, he passed away."
Ms. Li said that after her husband collapsed, school staff provided an AED, but no one present knew how to use it. After calling 120 for emergency services, emergency personnel instructed her on CPR over the phone. A few minutes later, the emergency personnel arrived at the scene, but her husband was pronounced dead. As of now, Ms. Li believes the matter has not been properly addressed, and her husband's body has not yet been buried.
Ms. Li also stated that her husband had previously been diagnosed with hypertension, was on long-term medication, and his blood pressure was usually well-controlled and his mood stable.
Ms. Li provided her husband's death certificate, which shows the death occurred on March 30 at Tongquan Middle School in Malong District, with the cause of death being sudden cardiac death.
On the afternoon of April 13, a staff member from the Malong District Education and Sports Bureau stated that a special team has been established to handle the incident. Regarding the parent's report of student bullying and the parent's sudden death during school mediation, the local public security organs have already launched an investigation.
