Suspected Dead Rat Fished Out During Soup Refill, Guangxi Breakfast Shop Ordered to Suspend Business for Rectification

Customers at a breakfast shop in Guangxi, China reportedly fished out what appeared to be a dead rat when refilling their soup. The restaurant has been ordered to suspend operations for rectification.

According to China’s The Beijing News, on Thursday (December 25), a netizen in Baise, Guangxi, posted a video saying that he encountered a "big surprise" while having breakfast out. When refilling soup, he fished out an animal carcass from the restaurant’s pot that appeared to be a rat.

Staff from the Baise City Market Supervision Administration said they had proactively monitored and found the video, and had visited the restaurant in question for on-site verification. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the circumstances in the video were true, and a case has been filed against the shop.

The Youjiang District Market Supervision Administration in Baise City announced on its WeChat public account on Friday (26th) that the implicated establishment is "Cen XX Restaurant, Sitang Town, Youjiang District, Baise City." "Inspection revealed that the restaurant indeed had the food safety risks shown in the video. At present, our bureau has filed a case in accordance with the law and ordered the restaurant to immediately suspend operations for rectification."


The Youjiang District Market Supervision Administration also stated that, going forward, oversight will be further strengthened and all types of food safety risks and hazards will be thoroughly investigated.
