Concern Over Heavy Vehicle Transportation Safety

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) A driver has expressed concern over the safety of heavy vehicles transporting large steel pipes or twisted rebars and other hazardous items.

He said that these items could become loose and fall off the vehicle, potentially causing damage to vehicles behind and resulting in severe injuries.
This issue was brought to light after he observed a truck loaded with steel pipes that seemed to have no safety measures in place.
Despite heavy traffic, he had to keep a considerable distance from the truck because he feared sudden braking might cause the steel pipes to fall off, dropping through the large gaps at the back door of the truck.

He said this is also based on witnessing and hearing about similar incidents involving other road users.

“The bundled steel pipes had become loose due to impact, causing goods to fall on vehicles behind, and there has even been an incident where a steel pipe pierced through a car windshield.”
He suggested that authorities should conduct spot-checks on these heavy vehicles and remind companies to adopt safe transportation standards.
