An Indian Airlines flight suddenly descended about 300 feet (approximately 91 meters) during flight last week, injuring 17 people. A source revealed that the captain subsequently tested positive for marijuana.

The source said that in a confirmatory drug test, the captain's marijuana test was positive.

According to India News TV on the 11th, the Airbus A320 carrying 137 passengers and 8 crew members suddenly dropped about 300 feet (91 meters) while flying from Phuket, Thailand to New Delhi on August 4, but then stabilized and landed safely.

However, despite the safe landing, the incident caused injuries to 13 passengers and 4 crew members.

After landing, Indian Airlines issued a statement saying the plane "suddenly lost altitude," and stated that the company is fully cooperating with the investigation and has notified the aircraft manufacturer.

On the 9th, the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation also stated that the captain's initial psychoactive substance screening test after the incident showed that a confirmatory laboratory test was required.
