South Korean actress Nana (Im Jin-ah) shocked the public last year when her home was broken into by an armed intruder. On the 9th, the court handed down its first verdict, sentencing the suspect, a man in his 30s named Kim, to seven years in prison. On the same day, Nana took to her Instagram Stories to share several screenshots, personally revealing the torment she has endured in court during this period.
Nana wrote angrily: “Victim: ? Criminal: I feel so wronged. Victim: ?” and heartbreakingly stated that she had gone through six public hearings and one sentencing, for a total of seven court sessions, during which the perpetrator “consistently and repeatedly lied,” lashing out that “the criminal shows no remorse and will never be forgiven.”
According to the court verdict and trial details Nana made public, Kim’s statements in court were extremely absurd. While he admitted to breaking and entering with intent to steal, he strongly denied committing robbery. In his final statement, he even “played the victim,” submitting a medical certificate showing an injury over 5cm, and insisted that “he had no weapon when entering the residence,” instead accusing “Nana’s mother of threatening and even stabbing him with a weapon.” Kim further claimed that he only hugged Nana’s mother to calm her down, and absolutely did not choke her. Moreover, he argued that he only admitted to carrying a weapon because Nana and her mother threatened him, saying “if you don’t admit you brought a knife, we’ll call the police.” In response, prosecutors condemned Kim’s serious crime, complete lack of remorse, and failure to reach a settlement with the victim, originally seeking a heavy 10-year sentence. In the end, the judge sentenced Kim to seven years in prison according to the law.
