(Kedah, 29th) A man driving a luxury Toyota Alphard SUV registered under his wife’s name to pick up his child from school was detained after his vehicle was found to have expired road tax and no valid insurance during the ‘Ops Luxury’ enforcement action by the Sungai Petani Road Transport Department (JPJ).

On Sunday (June 28), the man was driving a white Toyota Alphard to pick up his child from school when he was stopped by enforcement officers at the 4th kilometer of the Ban Jau Ban to Sungai Rekong road. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the vehicle, registered under his wife’s name, had expired road tax and was lacking valid insurance coverage.

Due to these violations, the authorities issued a notice under Section 64(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act and seized the vehicle for further investigation.

The Kedah Road Transport Department emphasized that enforcement operations will continue to be strengthened to ensure all vehicle owners comply with traffic regulations and ensure that their road tax and insurance are valid before using the road.

In addition, during the ‘Ops PEWA’ foreign worker operation at the 3rd kilometer of the Penghulu Him to Sungai Rekong road, enforcement officers also seized a Proton Persona.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle was driven by a Myanmar national, with expired road tax and no valid insurance.

At the time of the stop, the driver was carrying daily necessities and was preparing to return to his dormitory accommodation in Binnong.

The authorities then seized the vehicle under Section 64(1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act and sent it to the Sungai Petani Road Transport Department detention center for further action.
