Malaysia Grab and SDEC Collaborate to Accelerate Sarawak's Digital Transformation

(Kuching, 4th) Malaysia Grab Company and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) signed a memorandum of understanding to accelerate Sarawak's digital transformation.

Grab announced in a statement that the focus of this collaboration is on the tourism and SME sectors.

The strategic partnership aims to consolidate Sarawak's position as a major Southeast Asian tourist destination and help local merchants transition to digitalization for business development.

Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Malaysia Grab Company, said this move aligns with Grab's commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable digital economic growth in Malaysia.

“We are excited to expand our investment in Sarawak and appreciate the support from the Sarawak government and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation. By leveraging our technology and expertise, we hope to help local businesses enhance their resilience, meet the growing demand for digital services, and create more economic opportunities for the local community.”

Meanwhile, SDEC's CEO Dato Sudarnoto stated that this collaboration is a strategic step to position Sarawak as a regional digital hub.

“Digital tourism is a major driving force for Sarawak's economic growth. With Grab's technical expertise and data ecosystem, we can expand digital access for local merchants and attract more investment to Sarawak.”

The main initiatives of the memorandum of understanding include supporting Sarawak's tourism industry, promoting local business development, training, and enhancing financial literacy, digitizing farmers' markets and agricultural fairs, sustainable mobility, and expanding goods delivery services.

In addition, representatives from Malaysia Grab Company visited the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Dato Patinggi Abang Johari, at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Building yesterday. Present were Sarawak's Director of Public Affairs and Policy, Ibni Azril, Head of Business, Kelvin Lam, and Director of National Strategy, Ben Chin.
