A Chinese female tourist climbed onto the ruins of the ancient city wall for photos while traveling in Chiang Mai, Thailand on the 13th, drawing dissatisfaction from local residents who were concerned about the impact on historical site preservation.

The incident was captured by local residents and uploaded online, quickly attracting the attention of Thai citizens and netizens, who criticized the act as damaging to cultural relics and setting an extremely bad example.
In 2016, two Chinese female tourists were seen playing and taking photos by the ancient city wall; one of them performed a handstand, placing her feet against the wall, which drew the attention and discussions from passersby.
Online footage shows the female tourist, wearing a black top and shorts, sitting on the Chiang Mai ancient city wall at "Si Phum Corner" near the moat, with her legs dangling outside the wall. While she was taking photos on the wall, it suddenly thundered and started to rain, prompting her to come down from the wall and seek shelter.

The outer area of Chiang Mai’s ancient city is surrounded by the city wall and moat, with several historic building zones. It is one of Chiang Mai’s most representative historical, cultural, and tourist landmarks. After the woman's actions were exposed, they sparked controversy—some residents stated that the Chiang Mai ancient city wall carries centuries of local history and culture and is not an ordinary photo spot. Climbing or sitting on the monument for photos could damage its preservation and might also encourage other tourists to imitate such behavior.
