Venezuela’s interim president Rodriguez stated on social media on June 30 that a three-year-old child was rescued from the ruins of a building six days after a major earthquake struck Venezuela.
She said: “In the early morning of the 30th, three-year-old Moran was rescued after being trapped for six days under the rubble of a collapsed building in La Guaira state. He has now been transferred and is receiving medical treatment.”
She pointed out that the rescue was carried out by a Jordanian rescue team.
La Guaira state is the hardest-hit area of Venezuela. On-site footage shows several rescuers carefully removing debris and rubble with tools, with the digging and search work lasting several hours. When Moran was rescued from the completely collapsed building, he was still conscious and breathing, and was immediately taken by ambulance to a medical center for further examination and treatment.
Death Toll Reaches 1,943
On the same day, Jorge, chairman of the Venezuelan National Assembly, stated at a disaster briefing that the two strong earthquakes that recently struck the country have killed 1,943 people and injured 10,571. Since the rescue operations began, 6,461 people have been rescued.
