(Kuala Lumpur, 27th) — Minister of Digital Gobind Singh said that widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by Malaysian businesses and employees will accelerate economic growth across all sectors of the nation.
In a statement today (27th), he said that it is estimated that just generative AI alone can unlock up to USD 113.4 billion in productivity benefits for Malaysia.
Yesterday, Gobind Singh spoke at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-level Meeting on Global AI Governance held in Shanghai, China, stressing that all countries share the responsibility to ensure AI continues to be a force for good.
“In this era of artificial intelligence, collaboration is crucial. Only through shared commitment, innovation, and vigilance can we ensure that the digital world is always a positive force.”
“Our primary goal is to bridge the digital divide between nations, strengthen digital cooperation, to ensure the development and governance of emerging technologies benefit humanity.”
He said that Malaysia welcomes the outcome document of the conference, the ‘Global Action Plan for AI Governance,’ and highlighted our country’s efforts, including the establishment of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) last December, with the aim of coordinating and advancing the national AI agenda.
Gobind Singh said that as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, Malaysia is leading the establishment of the ASEAN AI Security Network and spearheading AI security dialogues.
He said that this network will serve as a regional platform for ASEAN AI security, promoting the exchange of best practices, research collaboration, standard-setting, and responsible AI applications.
“By driving innovation, enhancing decision-making, and optimizing AI, it not only transforms industries but also leverages valuable resources to accelerate global development.”
“This reminds us that future technology must transcend borders, be built together, and uphold a shared vision for creating a better world.”
Gobind Singh said that Malaysia will host two major global events this year: the inaugural ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit in August, and the World Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur in September. Both events aim to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and academics to jointly explore AI, innovation, and digital transformation.
