(Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th) His Majesty the Sultan received the Commander-in-Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces, General Dato’ Mohamad Nizam. The reception ceremony was held at the Istana Nurul Iman.
Accompanying the visit were the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei, Dato’ Mohamad Ainie, and senior officials of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
Brunei and Malaysia have maintained close and friendly diplomatic relations since January 1984. On February 14, 1992, the two countries signed the ‘Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation’, officially establishing a defense cooperation relationship.
This visit marks the commitment of both parties to strengthen their continuously close cooperation through various bilateral and multilateral defense collaborations (including peacekeeping operations under the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon [UNIFIL]). It also reflects the joint commitment of both parties to uphold ASEAN's central role as a cornerstone of regional unity and stability.
This visit is also General Dato’ Mohamad Nizam’s first visit to Brunei since his appointment as the Commander-in-Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces on January 31, 2025. He will conduct an official three-day visit to Brunei from May 6 to 8, 2025.
