(Kelantan, 2nd) A warehouse storing groceries on Jalan Kebun Sultan in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, caught fire on Sunday night (February 1), burning down about 80% of the structure. Among the destroyed goods were mandarin oranges and dates, with the fortunate circumstance that the warehouse was already closed during the incident and no casualties occurred.
According to the Metro Daily, the site of the fire was an old, well-established local wholesale warehouse for imported fruits and onions. Originally used for storage purposes, the warehouse contained dozens of tons of citrus fruits, as well as dates and onions, all of which were destroyed in the blaze. This included more than 15,000 boxes of mandarin oranges intended for the Chinese New Year market.
At the same time, large stocks of red dates and onions meant for Ramadan and Hari Raya celebrations also could not escape the fire.
The Kota Bharu Fire and Rescue Department stated that after receiving a report at 9:09 pm that night, they immediately dispatched fire trucks from the Kota Bharu station and arrived at the scene within seven minutes to begin firefighting operations.
