Ali Lee Indulges in Malaysian Cuisine, Lai Lok Yi 'Gains Weight' as Her Eating Buddy

Hong Kong artistes Lai Lok Yi and Ali Lee, who are filming Astro’s new drama “Yi He” in Malaysia, appeared at the “Astro Hello Inilah KITA Fan Meeting” on the evening of the 24th. On stage, they exposed each other's 'foodie' natures with witty banter. Lai Lok Yi jokingly said Ali Lee's 'eyes are bigger than her stomach'—she always orders a ton of food but can’t finish it, making him have to 'eat along' and gain weight. Ali Lee quickly shook her head in mock protest, insisting she would never waste food, but simply couldn’t resist the allure of Malaysian delicacies.
Since arriving in Malaysia in July for filming, the two have visited many places they rarely have a chance to go to, witnessing a different side of Malaysia. Lai Lok Yi plays a gang leader in a fishing village in the drama and has many fight scenes, often filming in remote villages and getting tanned, “The whole crew got tanned,” he laughed. By contrast, Ali Lee plays the gang leader’s wife, with most of her scenes set in malls or air-conditioned areas, making Lai Lok Yi envy her. Ali Lee responded with a laugh, “I’m in charge of the accounts and management—our roles are different!” She also shared that filming has allowed her to visit fishing villages, street stalls, abandoned areas, and other places she’d never usually go to, “I’ve seen another side of Malaysia.”

Talking about challenges of filming in Malaysia, Ali Lee laughed, saying her biggest test was to 'hold back her appetite.' “Actually, I eat a lot; people say my appetite is amazing. The food here is heavy in flavor, so sometimes I can’t resist having a few more bites, which easily causes my skin to react or have breakouts. There are so many delicious dishes in Malaysia, sometimes filming is tough and I want to reward myself, but knowing there’s an early shoot the next day, I don’t dare to indulge too much.”
Lai Lok Yi revealed that “Yi He” is expected to wrap up filming in early September. He said that when they shot in Sekinchan, he got to enjoy a lot of fresh local seafood and ate to his heart’s content. On always going on food hunts with Ali Lee, he joked that Ali is truly 'greedy' (loves eating), causing him to gain weight as a “side effect”: “She really is ‘eyes bigger than her stomach.’ Everywhere she goes, she says she wants to order this and that, orders everything, but can’t finish it in the end.” Ali Lee protested and insisted she never wastes food: “Anything I order, I’ll finish! It’s just that there’s so much delicious food here and I want to try it all, plus there are so many staff to share with, so I order more—but I don’t waste food!”

Asked about their relationship in the series, Lai Lok Yi kept things mysterious: “Many people think we're a couple, but in fact she is my sister-in-law. As for whether there’s a romance line, I’ll leave that for the audience to discover.” Ali Lee chimed in with a smile, “Our relationship is very complicated.”
That evening, Yong Qihang, lead actor in the currently airing drama “My Fresh Meat Old Dad,” made a surprise appearance to promote the finale and interact with fans. Lead actors from the upcoming series “The Ghost Bride,” airing in September—Chen Ziying, Sheng Tian Jun, and Lee Wei Shen—were also present to introduce their roles and share behind-the-scenes stories. In addition, “Music With You 2” singers Xu Kai and Lai Song Feng, as well as “Astro Classic Golden Melody Singing Competition 2025” guest performers Zeng Guohui and Bai Lin, also performed on stage.
