(Sibu, Feb 3) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari pointed out that the Sarawak government will repair multiple roads damaged by floods and re-evaluate all road projects in the area.
He stated that the measures aim to alleviate the impact of traffic congestion on users in several areas.
“We will carry out repair works on certain roads in Sibu, including the new road connecting Sibu Jaya and Lanang, which has caused traffic congestion on Jalan Salim. Therefore, we are planning improvements to ensure smoother and safer traffic.”
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said during an interview after attending six Chinese New Year open house events yesterday that despite the continued rainfall, the flood situation in Sibu has not caused severe damage compared to Miri and Bintulu.
He expressed pride in the spirit of the Sibu community, who celebrated the Chinese New Year with joy despite the unpredictable weather.
He said Sibu was more fortunate than Miri and Bintulu, as these two areas suffered severe damage from the floods. Although floods occurred here, the impact was not as severe as in the other two areas.

“We will prioritize families who are genuinely affected, whose properties are destroyed or rendered unusable. The assessment is conducted by the local governor and decided by Datuk Amar Douglas, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and chairman of the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.”
He emphasized that if the existing allocation is insufficient, the Sarawak government will further assess the needs in a cabinet meeting and decide on additional measures.
