Huang Zijiao Attends 6th Mediation Session, Has Reached Settlement with 24 Victims

Taiwanese celebrity Huang Zijiao was found to have collected 2,259 child and youth sexual images. The first trial determined there were 35 victims and sentenced him to eight months in prison. Huang appealed, but the Taipei District Prosecutors Office discovered an additional 12 young female victims and a total of 586 more sexual images. Huang was further prosecuted and the case is now being reviewed by the High Court, with the number of victims totaling 47. On the 4th, the High Court held its sixth mediation session. Huang did not appear in court, but his legal team reached settlements with three more victims. Together with the previous five mediation sessions, during which settlements were reached with 21 victims, Huang has now settled with 24 victims and paid compensation.
According to legal professionals, as more than half of the victims have not reached a settlement with Huang Zijiao, if there is no substantial progress in settlements during the High Court trial, it will be difficult for Huang to be sentenced to less than six months in prison and allowed to pay a fine instead of serving time; thus, he is likely to face imprisonment. As for rumors regarding Huang Zijiao and his wife, Meng Gengru, divorcing, his lawyer stated in an interview that he was not authorized to respond to personal matters and therefore had no comment.
