Persistent Water Accumulation at Sen Teck Fong Garbage Area: Ling Sze Kien Urges Authorities to Address Issue Promptly

(Miri, 8th) Sarawak DAP Secretary Ling Sze Kien recently received complaints from residents and business owners, stating that there has been long-term water accumulation at the garbage disposal area of the Sen Teck Fong Commercial Centre near Yong Sheng Supermarket in downtown Miri, raising concerns over environmental hygiene.
Ling Sze Kien immediately visited the site for an inspection, and found that the garbage disposal area was indeed severely waterlogged. Not only had the wastewater not been cleaned up, but it also emitted a foul stench, making people hold their noses.
He pointed out that the sanitary conditions at the site were obviously unsatisfactory, and the stagnant water had not been cleared for a long time. This could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. If due to poor management or oversight, Aedes mosquitoes were allowed to breed, leading to dengue fever cases, it would pose a tremendous threat to nearby residents and businesses.
"Such public health hazards cannot be ignored. The authorities and the cleaning contractor have a responsibility to ensure that the garbage disposal area is kept clean and free from standing water, in order to prevent the spread of disease."
Ling Sze Kien stated that he would assist residents in reporting this issue to the relevant authorities, and urged the city council and contractors to begin cleaning and repair work as soon as possible to ensure a thorough resolution of the water accumulation problem, thus creating a safer and more hygienic living and business environment for residents and business owners.
