(Kuching, 15th) Sarawak United People's Party (PBB) Deputy Chairman Datuk Amar Douglas today led 4,000 party members to support Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari to continue serving as the party chairman at the party's delegates conference.
On the second day of the PBB delegates conference, Douglas announced that Abang Johari is retained as the next party chairman.
"All 82 divisions of PBB have unanimously decided to retain Abang Johari as the party chairman. He has been re-elected without opposition, and we have full confidence in his leadership."
Douglas, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, emphasized the progress achieved under Abang Johari's leadership, citing key milestones such as the establishment of Sarawak's own airline, Borneo Airways (AirBorneo), and the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund, which currently boasts assets of 8 billion ringgit.
He also pointed out that Sarawak has been recognized by the World Bank as a high-income state, with a record income of 14.2 billion ringgit in 2023. Other achievements include the state's acquisition of Bintulu Port and its majority stake in Affin Bank.
"These successes are not by chance or magic. I remember some in the opposition thought they were just talk, but today, we can see the reality. It is happening, and we are all witnessing and experiencing it."
Douglas also described Abang Johari as a bold and visionary leader, praising him for not only safeguarding Sarawak's rights but also driving its economic and technological transformation.
"Like a great ship, PBB has a strong, capable, and fearless captain at the helm — this leader is Abang Johari."
He stated that Abang Johari stands firm and never yields on Sarawak's continental shelf, leading with integrity, vision, and wisdom to ensure Sarawak's future.
Douglas also reiterated the party's strong commitment to Abang Johari's leadership, pledging full support for him to continue as chairman.
"Under his leadership, PBB remains the pillar of stability, prosperity, and sustainable development in Sarawak, and we will fully support him — you (Abang Johari) will never be alone."
