(Miri, 29th) The Mayor of Miri, Adam Yii, stated that protecting and conserving the mangrove swamp ecosystem contributes significantly to the well-being of the international community and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
He expressed deep gratitude for everyone’s dedication, working together with the Miri Natural Resources and Environment Committee and various institutions to facilitate the smooth implementation of the tree planting project 'Sowing the Future'.
"It is reported that this project was jointly launched by PETRONAS and the Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) in 2021, and this year marks its fourth year. PETRONAS Sarawak Asset has planted 10,000 mangrove saplings in the Kuala Baram area, making a significant contribution to restoring and protecting the local ecological environment."
Adam Yii congratulated all the units and individuals involved in achieving this accomplishment and specifically thanked the Sarawak and Miri Natural Resources and Environment Bureau, the Sarawak Forestry Bureau, the Miri Environment Bureau, as well as the leaders and community residents of Kampung Batu 1 for their active participation.
He remarked at the opening ceremony of the "Planting Mangroves, Planting the Future 2024" event this morning, "I hope that this noble effort of ours will allow us to continue enjoying the beauty of a prosperous environment."
