The 8th Legislative Council in Hong Kong consists of 90 seats, divided into 40 seats from the Election Committee constituency, 30 seats from the Functional Constituencies, and 20 seats from the Geographical Constituencies by direct election. This institutional arrangement has been in place for two terms since the 2021 electoral reform, aiming to fully implement the "patriots governing Hong Kong" principle.

National Security Office: Hong Kong Accelerating Out of "Over-Politicization Quagmire"
A spokesperson for the Office for Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong said that during the election, hostile foreign forces and anti-China disruptors in Hong Kong attempted to "use disaster to cause chaos," exploit the sorrow of the public, smear and vilify the SAR government's disaster relief efforts, spread rumors to pit the election against rescue efforts, incite voters not to vote or to cast invalid ballots. The SAR law enforcement agencies promptly clarified the truth, investigated according to the law, stopped and arrested multiple persons suspected of stirring trouble under the pretext of disaster and interfering with or sabotaging the election, thus creating favorable conditions for the election to proceed as scheduled. The election results fully demonstrate that, as the "One Country, Two Systems" institutional framework continues to be refined and under the safeguard of the national security law, Hong Kong is accelerating its way out of the "over-politicization quagmire," with a growing social consensus on seeking security and pursuing development.
