Renowned Taiwanese singer Qiu Jun rose to fame from a talent show. In 2024, he performed the song "Life's Turning" for the drama "Gorgeous Taxi Company," which topped digital music platform charts, major karaoke playlists, and became a hit on TikTok, making him the most remarkable newcomer of 2024. Amidst his sudden popularity, a shocking incident occurred on the 6th when he was involved in a fatal car accident. On December 27th last year, at 4 a.m., while driving on Xinyi Road in Keelung City, he hit a taxi driver who was waiting in line. One of the victims, Mr. Li, unfortunately, passed away on the 3rd. After hitting the person, instead of stopping, he fled the scene for 2 days and even proceeded to perform at a New Year's event, causing public outrage.
On December 27th at 4 a.m., Qiu Jun hit two taxi drivers who were waiting in line. Unexpectedly, without getting out of his car to check, he drove off and only reported to authorities 2 days later. One of the drivers, surnamed Li, was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was sadly pronounced dead. Qiu Jun denied hitting anyone, insisting he "hit a stone" instead. However, preliminary police investigations suspect Qiu Jun of driving under the influence, and he has been referred to the Keelung District Prosecutor's Office for negligent injury and public endangerment under the Criminal Code.
Although Qiu Jun caused a fatal accident on the 27th, surrendered on the 29th, and continued to perform on the 31st, he even posted on IG sharing "The last day of 2024, thank you all for spending the New Year with me, did 3 performances, thank you for accompanying me through 2024, let's become better together in 2025," which now seems extremely ironic.
