Miri Police Sweep Nets Foreign Man, Seizes Meth Worth Over RM6,000

(Miri, 1st) The Miri police recently carried out two raids, successfully arresting a 27-year-old foreign male and seizing drugs with a total estimated value of about RM6,274.40.

The Miri police district’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, acting on public information, launched operations at two locations from 12 pm to 1:30 pm on September 29.

In the first operation, police arrested the suspect at a shop on Jalan Pujut 7, and seized 5.64 grams of methamphetamine (meth), valued at about RM620.40.

In the second operation, police found and seized drugs hidden by the suspect beside a car along Lorong 2, Jalan Tudan, totaling 51.40 grams and valued at about RM5,654.

Police said these operations resulted in a total seizure of 57.04 grams of methamphetamine, valued at RM6,274.40—enough for 285 drug users. The suspect’s urine test was positive for meth, but he has no prior record.

This case is currently being investigated under Section 39B and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the suspect faces the death penalty or life imprisonment, as well as no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane; Section 39A(1) stipulates a prison term of not less than 2 years and up to 5 years, and 3 to 9 strokes of the cane.

The suspect is currently in a 7-day police remand, from September 30 to October 7, to assist with further investigation.

Police emphasized that they will continue to fight drug activities with zero tolerance, and called on the public to keep providing information to eradicate the drug menace.
