35-Year-Old American 'Sadako' Dies of Illness, Emaciated on Streets of a Slum; Seven-Figure Bank Savings Left Untouched

Known for playing the ghost "Sadako" in the Hollywood version of The Ring, American actress Daveigh Chase passed away from illness in a Los Angeles hospital at the young age of 35.

As more insiders have come forward, the tragic ordeal of this former child star in her last days has been fully exposed. Not only did she wander the notorious slums of Los Angeles for years, but she also had millions of dollars (1 USD ≈ 1.29 SGD) in royalty earnings left untouched in her name. Meanwhile, her family is currently embroiled in a dispute with her current boyfriend over an online fundraising campaign.

She was the voice of the main character in Disney's animated film Lilo & Stitch, and played the red-dressed ghost in the American version of The Ring. Chase died in the hospital from complications caused by bacterial meningitis and a blood infection.

Reports point out that in the last few months of her life, she suffered greatly from drug addiction. Street aid workers in the LA slums revealed that she was often seen among those lining up at aid stations. Her appearance was drastically different from her on-screen image, and due to not receiving timely treatment, her physical condition deteriorated further each time she was seen, becoming increasingly emaciated.

In a live video recorded a few months ago, her extremely thin frame—like a paper person—was curled up in a tent in the slum, and her mental state was very poor.

In November 2015, it is said that a director had proactively invited her to participate in a new film, but Chase unexpectedly failed to show up. She subsequently lost her phone and disappeared completely from the sight of friends and family. Since she often had the habit of disappearing alone to the desert or Las Vegas for months at a time, her loved ones did not contact the police right away, but tried to look for her through various private channels.

Disconnected from Friends and Family for Ten Years

Over the past 10 years, Chase sporadically appeared in social news columns. For example, in February 2017, she was arrested by police for riding in a stolen car. In November of the same year, she was questioned by police for abandoning a dying man outside a hospital. Her former agent said he saw a video of her wandering the slums about six months ago, and immediately went to the scene with a private investigator to search for her—he even arranged for her to go to a rehab center in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, when he arrived, Chase had already left that area, and they narrowly missed each other. He also revealed that Chase had actually been out of touch with friends and family for as long as 10 years.

Surprisingly, Chase was not financially destitute. Her former agent said that she had participated in several hit film and TV projects early in her career, and there are still millions of dollars in residual royalties sitting in her bank account to this day, but this money had never been touched in the past decade.

After Chase's passing, her boyfriend launched a fundraiser in her name on the GoFundMe online platform. However, Chase’s family subsequently publicly declared that the fundraiser had not been authorized by the family and was in fact an illegal scam. The family suspects that her boyfriend is trying to profit from Chase’s fame and tragedy, and urged the public not to fall for it.
