Veteran Taiwanese musician and judge “Little Fat Teacher” Yuan Weiren passed away in Taitung on the 2nd at the age of 57. On the 24th, his obituary was made public. Due to different customs in calculating age, there is some discrepancy: although the obituary states he was born on June 24, 1968, it lists his age as 59. His memorial service will be held a week after the Lantern Festival, on March 10th, at the Huaiai Hall. The funeral expenses will be fully transferred by the “Little Fat Trust Foundation”—set up by several friends from Yuan Weiren's music circle during his lifetime—to Yuan’s mother, who will handle the payments.
Previously, it was reported that Yuan Weiren’s ex-wife, Lu Yuanqi, had revealed she was asked not to attend his memorial service. The obituary does list the names of their children, Yuan Yi and Yuan Rong. Considering that some close family and friends may not be able to attend the memorial service in person, the Yuan family will open the VIP room of the Guobao Funeral Home for friends and fans to pay their respects on March 7th and 8th, from 10 AM to 3 PM. After the cremation ceremony, Yuan Weiren will be interred together with his father at the Penglai Cemetery in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, where he will rest in peace.#
