Car Collision with Fans in Liverpool Injures 47, Police Say Not a Terror Attack

An incident involving a car colliding with fans occurred in the center of Liverpool, UK on the 26th, resulting in 27 people being injured and taken to the hospital, with 2 among them seriously injured.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service, Kitchen, stated that 27 injured people were urgently taken to four hospitals in the Liverpool area for medical treatment, with 2 seriously injured individuals, including one child. Additionally, another 20 received treatment for minor injuries on the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Deputy Chief Constable Sims of Merseyside Police, where Liverpool is located, said at a news conference that the incident of the car colliding with fans was initially determined to be an "isolated incident," and the police do not consider it related to terrorism.

A 53-year-old white male suspect from Liverpool has been detained. At the time of the incident, tens of thousands of fans were celebrating in the streets as the Liverpool team won the English Premier League championship.

A police spokesperson previously stated that shortly after 6 pm local time, the police received a report of a car colliding with several pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool, and the offending vehicle was subsequently intercepted at the scene.

British Prime Minister Starmer later posted on social media saying: "The scene in Liverpool is shocking. I extend my sympathies to all those injured and affected. I will continue to follow the developments."
