(Kuching, 30th) Leading innovator in the field of sustainable technology, HighChem Co., Ltd., recently concluded high-level talks with the Sarawak delegation, focusing on potential cooperation in the field of green technology.

The talks were held during Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg's visit to Japan on December 17th, aligning with Sarawak's ambition to become a global leader in a green circular economy.

HighChem Co., Ltd. Chairman Ushio Taka expressed in a statement the company’s enthusiasm for Sarawak's firm commitment to reducing carbon emissions, proposing the establishment of a strategic partnership to leverage the region’s renewable energy resources, particularly hydropower, to fuel industrial growth.

During the talks, HighChem also introduced two pioneering technologies.

The first technology is Syngas-to-Ethylene Glycol (SEG), which converts syngas into ethylene glycol, a key component for polyester fiber production, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.25 million tons annually.

The second technology is Carbon Dioxide to Paraxylene (PX), developed with support from Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), successfully converting carbon dioxide into paraxylene for use in the national team’s uniforms for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

HighChem also suggested that Sarawak could be an ideal location for large-scale pilot testing of the paraxylene technology, in line with the region’s green initiatives.

The collaboration aims to transform carbon dioxide emissions into valuable products through HighChem's advanced technology.

Taka emphasized that by combining HighChem's technological expertise with Sarawak's abundant renewable energy resources and the leadership of the Sarawak government, this partnership could make Sarawak a global leader in the green economy.

The discussions ended on a positive note, with both parties envisioning the development of world-class green polyester products produced entirely in Sarawak, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development.
