(Borneo Bulletin Bandar Seri Begawan, 27th) The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Nazmi, attended the 11th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA) meeting and the ASEAN Plus Three (China, Japan, and South Korea) dialogue partners meeting from October 23 to 26, held in Malacca, Malaysia.
The theme of this meeting was "Communicating Culture, Building the Future: Unity in Diversity," chaired by Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
Ministers and representatives from ASEAN member states, as well as the ASEAN Secretary-General, attended the meeting. Timor-Leste participated as an observer.
The 11th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts meeting emphasized the critical role of culture and arts in promoting sustainable and inclusive development and strengthening ASEAN unity.
The meeting highlighted that ASEAN's rich cultural diversity serves as the foundation for regional unity, with the aim to support the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which prioritizes three key areas: youth, creative economy, and digitalization.
During the meeting, the minister benefited from initiatives promoting common values and praising regional cultural diversity.
The minister also emphasized the joint nomination of the kabaya garment by ASEAN member countries as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is an important effort to strengthen regional solidarity.
Additionally, the minister stated that Brunei supports advancing the cultural and creative industries in line with the Vientiane Declaration and enhancing the declaration through cooperation with Japan, China, and South Korea.
Prior to the 11th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts meeting, the 20th Senior Officials Meeting on Culture and Arts was held on October 22, 2024, followed by the Senior Officials Meeting with ASEAN Plus Three dialogue partners (China, Japan, and South Korea) on October 23, 2024.
