Transport Minister: Kota Bharu Airport Upgrade Completed, New Expanded Terminal in Full Operation from 3/16

(Kelantan, 15th) Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that the expansion project of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, has been completed, and the newly expanded terminal will be fully operational from Monday (March 16).

In a statement released on Sunday (March 15), he said that the terminal has increased Sultan Ismail Petra Airport's annual passenger handling capacity from 1.5 million to 4 million.

He pointed out that the airport recorded 1.7 million passengers last year, an increase of 16.2% compared to the year before. With the increased capacity, the airport will be able to accommodate the continuous passenger traffic growth.

He mentioned that the improved airport facilities include a more spacious terminal, separation of departure and arrival levels for smoother passenger flow, and new roadside zones allocated for bus, taxi, and e-hailing services.

“These enhancements are expected to improve the travel experience for passengers and facilitate smooth airport operations, especially with the upcoming festive season.”

“At the same time, this upgrade will also strengthen air connectivity with Kelantan and support the state's tourism, commerce, and economic development.”

Anthony Loke said that there are currently five airlines operating at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, including six domestic routes and one international route to Singapore.

He pointed out that the official opening ceremony date for the new expanded terminal will be announced at a later time.
