(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) 41 youths from higher education institutions participated in the Youth Information Literacy Project in Brunei-Muara District, which serves as one of the platforms for disseminating official messages and government initiatives.
The two-day program's opening ceremony was held yesterday at the Information Department Auditorium. The Acting Director of the Publishing and Strategic Communication Division of the Information Department, Shadi Abdul, attended the opening ceremony.
Participants included students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB), as well as youth from the private sector, taking advantage of the school holiday period.
The Information Literacy Program was organized by the Information Department under the Prime Minister's Office through the nation-building section, strategic communication division, and publishing and strategic communication division.
During her speech, Strategic Communication Division Director and Program Chairperson, Mufidah, stated: “The Information Literacy Project is one of the initiatives carried out by the Information Department through the ‘Whole-of-Nation’ and ‘Whole-of-Government’ approaches. It aims to foster a sense of responsibility among youth, ensuring the successful realization of Brunei Vision 2035.”
She added: “The program also hopes to enhance participants’ awareness of the significant role of youth in national development, promote collaboration and close relationships between youth and grassroots communities, understand the concept of inclusivity, and familiarize youth with the 2020-2035 National Youth Policy.”
She emphasized that the younger generation is “a valuable source of energy and must be prepared to face challenges and become visionary youth, as the country's prosperity directly correlates with the performance of its youth.”
During the two-day program, participants will engage in various activities, including briefings, group discussions, and visits to designated institutions, where they will access the latest information, including understanding the concept of inclusivity.
Participants will also hear briefings from the Brunei Cyber Security Bureau (CSB) on “Scams of the Past and Present: The Evolution of Digital Scams”; the Royal Brunei Police Force on “Fake News, Cybercrimes, and Scammers”; and the Department of Youth and Sports on “Youth Aspirations.”
In addition, participants will visit the Happiness Center in Tutong District, where they will have opportunities to listen to briefings, visit classrooms, and engage in activities such as farming, cooking, sewing, and weaving alongside the center's students.
