7-Year-Old Falls onto Safety Net at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport; Netizens Blame Parents for Severe Negligence

An alarming incident occurred at Terminal 2 of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on the 25th, when a 7-year-old boy, allegedly playing alone, accidentally fell onto the anti-fall safety net beside an escalator. The incident sparked heated discussions online, with many netizens questioning the lack of parental supervision and condemning the parents for their severe negligence.

A netizen (01berich) posted two videos of the scene on social media, showing a young boy sitting bewildered on the safety net next to the escalator. Beneath the net, several airport staff and concerned citizens watch anxiously and guard him carefully, fearing he might lose balance and fall. The videos show that, out of concern that the safety net might not support an adult's weight, the group kept their distance from the boy at first, resulting in a tense standoff.

The netizen questioned in the post: “Taoyuan Airport Terminal 2, parents really need to keep an eye on their kids. Thankfully there was a safety net, otherwise… It seemed like his parents weren't present at the scene.” The video was later shared to online groups such as “Reporting Community”, quickly sparking fervent discussion amongst netizens.

Many netizens commented in shock, praising the safety net for preventing a serious accident. At the same time, a large number of comments targeted the parents: “Curious if any parent was actually watching”, “These parents are really negligent!”, “The airport should consider taking legal action.”

Afterwards, Taoyuan Airport Corporation stated that, with the timely assistance of airport staff, the boy was ultimately rescued safely and was unharmed. Police arrived to clarify the situation, and the boy was taken away from the airport by his parents. The airport company reminds the public that, as the terminal is crowded, parents and accompanying adults should always keep an eye on young children, and must not allow them to climb facilities, cross over barriers, or enter dangerous areas, to ensure the safety of both themselves and others.
