Wong Jing Reveals Nightclub Secret: Stephen Chow Surrounded and Cursed Out by Triads for 15 Minutes

The 2026 Hong Kong comedy Chinese New Year film "Night King" is set against the backdrop of the local Tsim Sha Tsui East nightclub industry in 2012, telling the story of a battle for survival amidst the revelry. Recently, director Wong Jing spoke about the rise and fall of nightclubs in the past on his personal YouTube channel "Wong Jing Talking Jianghu," using this film as a starting point, and even revealed a secret story about Stephen Chow visiting a nightclub.

Wong Jing revealed his first time visiting a nightclub was at the age of 20, brought along by director Cheung Tung-cho and action choreographer Tony Ching Siu-Tung. He mentioned that back then, many film industry people liked to go to nightclubs, but not necessarily for the women. He also said that the leads of "Night King," Dayo Wong and Sammi Cheng, are "incredibly kind," and bluntly stated that nightclubs back then were all about layers of exploitation, and only by finding gullible customers could they make money.

He recounted that nightclubs were very popular at the time, but the security in nearby areas was not good, with strong triad influence. He further revealed that when Stephen Chow had just become famous, there was one time he went to a nightclub. While waiting for a car to leave, a group of triad members happened to pass by and shouted "Stephen Chow," but Stephen ignored them. The whole group then surrounded him and hurled obscenities at him for almost 15 minutes.

Wong Jing emphasized that this was a true story and that someone who was with Stephen Chow at the time could verify it. In the end, when Stephen Chow's car arrived, he simply left, and no bigger conflict happened.
