Mandopop music godfather Jonathan Lee will return to Kuala Lumpur’s Axiata Arena on November 22 with his 'Years of Songs' tour, bringing fans a reunion that spans 40 years. Lee shared that this performance feels like a miracle, as the melodies he wrote forty years ago are still able to move both new and longtime listeners.
He confessed that for every tour stop he tries his best to treat it as a debut show: “Coming to Kuala Lumpur is like visiting an old friend for me. I never imagined that one day I’d be singing the same songs, holding the same guitar, with thousands upon thousands before me.” Every time he sings, he is filled with gratitude, and the chance to be face-to-face with fans again is what he treasures most.
Lee describes this tour as a whole new cleansing experience, which allows him to reunite with his younger self while also hoping to present the original Jonathan Lee to the audience. He was pleasantly surprised to see many young faces in the crowd: “I used to think the audience would mostly be friends my age, but seeing so many young people here was a surprise. Welcome, and I hope that through these songs, the resonance between generations can continue on.”
Speaking about the meaning of his works, Lee said his songs have accompanied listeners through life’s ups and downs, recording joy and sorrow, and he also hopes to provide comfort at different life stages. He especially mentioned 'Lonely Hard to Bear,' 'The Price of Love,' and 'Ordinary People’s Song'—all written for those striving in life, to deliver warmth and encouragement.
Lee also expressed his feelings to his fans: “Being able to see everyone is a matter of fate. I hope you all take care and live well. No matter where life takes you, I hope these songs will always echo in your heart. Old Lee is your friend, and I’ll keep writing songs, each one in tune with your life.”
Jonathan Lee's 'Years of Songs' Malaysia stop will be grandly staged at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil on November 22 (Saturday) at 8pm. Concert tickets are now on sale. For more details, please visit my.bookmyshow.com, starplanet.com.my, or livenation.my.
