A Singaporean woman took advantage of her parents visiting Genting Highlands to surprise her mother. After meeting her for four hours, she left to return to Singapore on her boyfriend's Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10 motorcycle, only to tragically die in a traffic accident on the way back.
The Singaporean couple was returning from Malaysia when they met with an accident on Tuesday (10th) at around 9:15 AM. It occurred at the 49.5 km mark southbound of the North-South Expressway, near the Kulai area.
Their heavy motorcycle collided with the guardrail, causing the 21-year-old woman to die instantly, while her 23-year-old boyfriend suffered a leg fracture and was taken to Kulai Hospital for treatment before being transferred back to Singapore for continued care.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the deceased woman was 21-year-old Zheng Aisha (Alssa Lyn Tay, translation), and her stepfather, Mr. Xu (57), said during an interview at the wake on Wednesday night that she was the only child of him and his wife. The family is struggling to come to terms with this sudden incident.
He and his wife traveled to Genting first, and their daughter called on Monday (9th) after receiving her new passport, saying she wanted to surprise her mother at Genting. He had advised her not to ride a motorcycle to Malaysia, but she insisted on seeing her mother.
The deceased and her boyfriend arrived in Genting at 1 AM on Tuesday (10th), met with family for four hours, and left at 5 AM. Her boyfriend had an early meeting that day, prompting their rushed return to Singapore.
Mr. Xu and his wife drove up to Genting and invited their daughter to drive back with them, but she insisted on leaving with her boyfriend, resulting in the accident near Kulai.
The deceased recently graduated from Kaplan private education institution with a business degree and was seeking employment. She was known to be a cheerful girl with good social connections. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday (14th) afternoon, after which her remains will be cremated at Mandai crematorium.
Friends and relatives held a prayer ceremony last night. A motorcycle was also displayed at the wake.
The Deceased's Boyfriend Says "Sorry"
The deceased's boyfriend was present at the wake, wearing a blue hospital gown and sitting in a wheelchair, accompanied by a group of relatives and friends. When approached by reporters, he declined to be interviewed.
Mr. Xu revealed that his daughter had been dating her boyfriend for about three months after meeting outside of school. "He just said sorry to us."
Mr. Xu lamented helplessly that what had happened could not be changed.
