Sarawak Plans to Launch Combo Tickets Combining Air and Train Fares

(Kuching, 2nd) — The Sarawak government is planning to launch an integrated travel package that covers both AirBorneo airline tickets and fares for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART), allowing visitors to seamlessly reach their destinations upon arrival in Sarawak.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari said that under this proposal, visitors only need to purchase a combo ticket that combines the AirBorneo ticket with ART fares, reaching their hotel or destination in a single journey.

“This means if they buy a combo ticket, for example departing from Kuala Lumpur, they only need to pay an airfare of RM375, plus the fare for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) ART.”

“Say the ART fare is a specific amount, then adding that to the RM375, visitors can go straight to their destination with a single package ticket.”

“For example, the well-known NorthBank Station is the 7th stop on the ART route. If visitors want to go to the hospital in that area for treatment, they can include the KUTS fare while purchasing their airline ticket. This measure is aimed at greatly improving convenience for tourists.”

Premier Abang Johari made these remarks yesterday after attending the KUTS SM07 Station "Station Naming Rights Agreement Signing Ceremony" in Kuching.

He added that implementing an integrated payment system can also effectively prevent tourists from encountering fraud or being overcharged, as the entire journey is properly arranged in the pre-purchased combo ticket.

Meanwhile, the Premier revealed that the ART network will continue to expand in the future, connecting more strategic destinations, including major shopping malls, Damai, Samarahan, and Serian.

He pointed out that this strategy is part of driving the modernization, humanization, and competitiveness transformation of Kuching's public transport system, further consolidating Kuching's position as a major Malaysian tourist destination.

Additionally, he added that besides providing travel convenience, the ART system also places great emphasis on safety measures, with every train equipped with cameras and centrally monitored by a control center in Rembus, allowing tourists to enjoy peace of mind while experiencing Sarawak.
