Possession of Smuggled Cigarettes: Defendant Fined $39,720

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) For possessing smuggled cigarettes, a local woman has been sentenced to a fine of $39,720. If the fine is not paid, she will have to serve a prison term of 19 months.
The defendant, Nur Ain (35), admitted to possessing 343 e-cigarettes, 16 cigarettes, and 50 grams of various tobacco products, and also confessed to possessing a bottle of alcohol without a valid permit.
The defendant was arrested by Royal Customs enforcement officers on June 21, 2023, at 9:54 p.m. in the Bukit Beruang low-cost housing area, Tutong District.
All items involved in the case, including e-cigarettes, cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, and cash, were confiscated and handed over to the government for further action.
